Alright folks, grab a coffee because I spent way too many hours sweating over this one. Wanted to figure out what actually works for bashing heads in OSRS without wasting all my hard-earned gold. Started super basic, like “what’s even hitting me?” level basic.
The Early Days Were Rough
First thing I did? Like everyone probably does, I slapped on whatever metal plates I had lying around. Full Rune set? Yeah, rocked that for ages. Swung my trusty Dragon Scimitar everywhere thinking I was king. Did okay at Sand Crabs, I guess. Felt slow though. Real slow. Like waiting for paint to dry slow. Needed to figure out why my hits felt weak.
Hitting the Books (Well, Wikis)
Got sick of chipping away at health bars like a toddler. Dug into guides, wikis – you name it. Talked to some sweaty dudes at the Ge. Learned that STR boost matters way more than I thought. That Dragon Scim? Solid starter, sure, but there’s BETTER. My eyes got big seeing stuff like the Abyssal Bludgeon or Abyssal Whip flickering on screens. Way faster, hits harder. Game changer right there.
Stumbling Through Experiments
Time to experiment. Blew some cash, of course. Tried the Abyssal Bludgeon first – felt like cheating. Massive crush bonus, wrecks stuff at NMZ or Dharoking. But heavy as hell, drains run energy fast if you’re moving around a lot.
Swapped to the good ol’ Abyssal Whip next. Much faster, accurate – perfect for slapping down basic mobs or training controlled at Ammonite Crabs. Missed the big crush hits though. Also sucks for training Strength pure – gotta do D Scim or something else for Strength specific hits.
Armor? Realized Obsidian ain’t just for fancy looks. Tried the full Obby set with that Berserker Necklace. BOOM! Big damage boost, especially with the Obby Sword. Cheap setup too! Only downside? Felt like wearing wet cardboard compared to Rune platebody.
Here’s the crap I actually ended up using regularly:
- Aberrant Spectres Slayer Task? Packed Proselyte armor like a good boy. Prayer bonus is your lifeline. Whip for slash accuracy.
- Chilling at Sand/Ammo Crabs? Fighter Torso (grinded those pest points!), Obsidian Legs, Neitznot Helm. Simple, effective, cheap repairs.
- Feeling Spicy & Rich? Dumped cash for a Bandos Chestplate and Tassets. That Strength bonus is sweet, sweet candy. Still use it whenever I can afford the repair bill.
What Actually Stuck
Learned the hard way: there’s no magic ‘best’ gear. It’s messy. Depends on your gold pile, where you’re training, and heck, what task you’re doing.
- Strength Pure Grinding? Grab an Obby Maul, full Obby, Berserker Neck. Brutal hits.
- Balanced Training? Whip (or better yet, its upgrade) on Controlled, Fighter Torso/Obsidian combo, Defender. Solid.
- AFKing Nightmare Zone? Bludgeon shines bright. Pair it with the prayer-sustain gear or full Obby.
Accessories? Don’t skip ’em. Fire Cape over Obby Cape any day. Berserker Ring (i) if you can, Warrior Ring (i) otherwise. Amulet of Strength is entry level, Fury or Torture when you’re feeling flush.
Final Thoughts (And The Grind)
Honestly? Made a bunch of mistakes. Wasted coins on gear I thought was hot but sucked for my level. Real magic is knowing why an item works for your spot. Check your Attack/Strength bonuses. Think about sustain (prayer, food). Ditch the noob mindset that one weapon rules all. Took me ages to stop clinging to that Dragon Scimitar like a security blanket! Keep asking “What’s hitting me? What style works here?” Adjust. Profit. Go smash stuff.
PS: Selling off my old Rune sets if anyone’s interested, cheap! Gotta fund that Bandos habit somehow…
