Remembered that CDM Soccer Skills thing I saw, just some simple stuff supposedly. No complicated drills, no fancy equipment. Sounded like my kind of fix. Figured I’d give it a real try for a week, see if it actually works for regular Joes like me.
Day 1 was rough. Felt silly at the park. Main drill was just kicking the ball against a wall. Simple, right? Wrong. The CDM bit said “Hit it clean every time.” First ten kicks? Shanked ’em. Toes. Ankles. Whiffs. Embarrassing. Goal was ten clean hits in a row. Took me almost 45 minutes cursing at that damn wall. Legs felt like noodles after. Focus felt like homework.
Day 2 almost broke me. Tried juggling. Again, simple goal: ten touches without it dropping. Easy? Nah. My personal best? Three. Three! Ball bounced off my knees, head, even the back of my neck once. Started doubting the whole thing. Stubbornness kicked in. Did it for twenty minutes straight, no breaks. Finally got seven touches. Small win. Called it quits.
Day 3 felt weirdly different. Back to the wall drill. Hit five clean passes straight away. Didn’t even think about it. Then eight. Then… ten! Couldn’t believe it. Did it again just to check. Yep, another ten clean passes. Muscle memory actually waking up.
Day 4 introduced the weak foot. Oh man, my left foot feels like a rubber chicken. CDM tip? Just pass it lightly against the wall, focus on technique not power. Did it slower. Hit it awkwardly, kinda pushing it. Felt stupid. But after about twenty minutes? Started connecting more consistently. Didn’t boot it into the neighbor’s garden once. Progress!
Here’s what I kept doing each session:
- Beat up the wall for passing. Ten clean hits.
- Tortured myself with juggling. Goal: Hit double digits.
- Unlocked my rubber chicken left foot with gentle wall taps.
Fast forward to today. Game day again with the lads. Was nervous. First real pass? Hit my teammate right on the boot. Felt smooth. Played a few one-touch passes like it was nothing. My weak foot even chipped in properly once or twice! Nobody shouted “WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?!” Got some nods instead. Felt good. Actually felt like I belonged out there.
So yeah, CDM Soccer Skills? Simple stuff actually works if you just shut up and do it every day. No magic beans, just repetitive kicking. Wall + Ball + Sweat. Still got miles to go, but this basic thing actually works quicker than I thought.
