wizard of oz merchandise

So you want to know about my wizard of oz merchandise thing? Yeah, I just got into it ’cause I watched that old movie again last week and thought, “Man, those ruby slippers are cool!” Made me wanna have some fun with it, so I started messing around.

How I Began

First off, I looked around my place for stuff I could use. Dug through my closet and found some red fabric from an old Halloween costume and a jar of glitter my kid left behind. Then I grabbed scissors and glue from the kitchen junk drawer – you know, that spot where everything ends up. Took me like an hour just to find decent scissors ’cause they were buried under receipts.

The Actual Doing

Okay, so I cut the red fabric into slipper shapes. That sounds easy, right? Nope, my hand was shaky, and the first few cuts were crooked messes. Had to redo ’em twice. After that, I slapped on the glue and sprinkled glitter all over, thinking it’d look sparkly like real rubies. But guess what? Glue dried too fast, and glitter stuck to my fingers instead of the fabric. Total pain! I was like, “Great, now my table’s covered in sparkles.” Ended up cleaning the mess with a damp rag.

  • Measured my feet for size – forgot they swell in the afternoon, so I overshot it.
  • Tried adding little bows from old hair ribbons, but they peeled off after a day.
  • Finally painted some cheap beads gold for the buckle part; they came out looking kinda fake.

Then I kept at it over a weekend. By Sunday, I’d made this pair that sorta resembled the real deal. Not perfect, but close enough for me to feel proud. Put ’em on, strutted around my living room, and tripped on a rug. Laughed it off ’cause, honestly, what a dumb idea.

Stuff I Figured Out

Biggest headache was making ’em wearable without falling apart. I reinforced the soles with cardboard from an Amazon box – yeah, I reuse junk like that. Worked okay but feel a bit stiff now. Showed ’em to my neighbor, who said they looked like kid’s party shoes. Ha! Whatever, she always critiques everything.

Finished the whole project feeling kinda worn out but happy. Learned that simple crafts can be fun if you don’t take ’em too serious. Saved me from wasting money on store-bought merch ’cause why buy when you can DIY? Plus, it’s a good laugh for the kids.
