So yesterday I felt like smashing skulls in BG3 but didn’t wanna sweat over complicated class stuff, ya know? Started messing around with Oath of Vengeance Paladin cause revenge sounds cool. Here’s how it went down, step by step.
The Absolute Disaster Start
First playthrough was garbage. Picked some fancy sword for looks, dumped points into Strength like everyone says, and charged headfirst into that first githyanki patrol near the bridge. Dude. My dude got folded like laundry. Got spanked hard, reloaded like five times. Felt stupid.
The “Duh” Moment:
Realized I picked gear like a clown. Didn’t matter how hard I swung if I couldn’t take a hit. Respecced Withers style. Swapped the fancy sword for the biggest, ugliest shield I could find at the Grove. Survival first, smiting later.
Building the Punch Machine
Kept Strength high cause big hits rule, but threw points into Constitution like my life depended on it… cause it kinda did. Forget Dexterity. Heavy armor club only. Core idea?
- Hit Things Hard: Divine Smite every chance I get. Found Lumpy the Ogre? Smite. Annoying goblin? Smite.
- Stop Dying: That shield wasn’t decoration. Stuck in melee like glue. Used spells like Shield of Faith to become annoyingly tanky. Made enemies waste turns whiffing at me.
- Crowd Go Boom: Got Channel Oath: Abjure Enemy early. Pointed at the biggest threat, watched him freeze up. Then walked over and smited him good while my buddies cleaned up the small fry. Easy.
Mid-Game Shenanigans
Act 2 started rough. Shadows are sneaky jerks. Grabbed the Sentinel feat ASAP. Enemies hit my friends? Whack! Sent ’em flying. Stayed glued to the scariest enemy, forcing them to deal with my ugly shield face while Shadowheart or Karlach did the real work.
Relentless Avenger? Man, that saved my bacon chasing down ranged jerks or spellcasters trying to flee after I smacked them. No escape!
The Gear Grind:
Found gear that screamed “REVENGE.” Anything boosting Smite damage? Equipped. Stuff that gives temp HP when I smite? Slapped it on. Found boots that added acid damage on hit. Punched Dror Ragzlin so hard he exploded green goo. Hilarious.
Endgame? More Like Smite Game
Bosses in Act 3 actually got easier. This build snowballs. Stacked Smites on Smites. Used spells like Hold Person or Banishing Smite from Vengeance kit. Paralyzed Ketheric, walked up, dumped MAX LEVEL SMITES into his face. Wiped that smug grin right off him in one round. Felt god-like. Poor Raphael thought his house was safe. Wrong. Smites broke his fancy decor.
Final thought? Forget min-maxing crazy combos. Big stick. Big shield. Divine power on tap. Hit hard, live long, and make enemies regret existing. Super easy to understand, brutally effective. Definitely my new go-to for smashing skulls without headaches.
