That “Best Wizard” Build Hunt
Alright so yesterday, after dinner, I sat down thinking, “Right, gonna finally push my Wizard this season. Must be some killer builds out there.” Looked around, saw this thing titled best build wizard guide, promising top damage setups. “Perfect,” I mumbled, grabbing my lukewarm coffee. Figured I’d just follow one and stomp some rifts.
Fire up the PC, log into the old Diablo 3. My Wizard’s sitting there decked out in some random legendary bits. Didn’t even have a full set. Step one: see what this guide wants. “Check these 5 top setups,” it says. Cool. Scrolled down, saw names like Firebirds this, Meteor that, Archon stuff. All gibberish, really. Just words. But I needed direction.
I picked the first one listed, something Firebirds focused. The guide had pictures of gear. Okay, gotta look for green armor pieces with the flame bird icon. Easy enough? Nah. Hopped into adventure mode, hunted bounties, ran a few rifts. Found a couple pieces quick! Nice! Slapped ’em on. Felt a bit stronger, roasting goatmen with fire blasts. But my damage? Still felt kinda… meh. Kept dying like crazy past Torment X. “Top damage,” I thought, “where?” Got annoyed. This was setup number one. Maybe just need the full set.
Trying Setup After Setup
Kept grinding, snagged a few more Firebirds pieces. Six pieces! Activated the full bonus. Sweet! Teleported into a huge pack, dropped a Meteor on their heads… and then immediately got swarmed and died. Screen went grey instantly. Drank more coffee, cold this time. The “top damage” felt super fragile. Glass cannon indeed. Checked the guide again – yep, they mentioned being squishy. Shoulda read closer.
Fine. Forget Firebirds for pushing right now. Scrolled down the guide. Setup two: some Typhon Hydra thing. Different set. Groaned. Back to grinding rifts and gambling blood shards. Finally got enough weird snake armor pieces. Threw hydras everywhere. They zapped enemies… slowly. Damage was steady but felt really slow compared to what the guide hinted at. Cleared a rift, time wasn’t great. Maybe my hydra skills weren’t right? Or gear stats bad? No idea. Frustration mounting. The guide just showed the setup, didn’t tell me how to really play it properly, ya know?
The Archon Fiasco
Okay, next! Setup three: Vyr Archon. Heard about this one. You turn into a blue super wizard. Sounded awesome! Of course, needed another full set, plus specific legendaries. Spent hours. Hours! My cat climbed on my keyboard twice begging for attention, totally ignored. Finally assembled most of it. Missing one crucial ring though, the “Swami” thing or whatever. Tried Archon anyway. Popped the skill… became the blue dude… zapped a few things… power faded in seconds, felt weaker than before! Utter disaster. Died again. Almost threw my mouse. The guide said this was top tier! But nope, missing that one ring meant the whole thing collapsed like a cheap tent. Should of seen that coming, I guess.
By this point, deep into the night, tried glancing at setups four and five. Tal Rasha something and LoD. But honestly? Looked even more complicated, needing specific items I knew I didn’t have. My stash was a chaotic mess of mismatched junk after chasing these first three. Brain felt fried.
Where I Ended Up
Finally logged off super late. Woke up thinking about it now. My takeaway from this whole “check these top setups” adventure?
- Finding gear takes forever. The guide makes it look easy. It ain’t.
- One missing piece wrecks everything. Especially for Archon. Felt bad.
- Just because it’s listed doesn’t mean it works for me. Firebirds damage was there but I couldn’t survive to use it. My hands ain’t that fast.
- The actual “playing” part is tricky. The guide showed items, not how to pilot the build right.
- Damage needs survival. Or you just end up staring at the death screen a lot.
So yeah, followed the guide’s “check these setups” idea literally. Ended up frustrated, tired, and still stuck around GR80. Maybe tonight I just stick with my half-baked Firebirds and see if I can actually learn how to play it without faceplanting constantly. Top damage? Heh. Not yet. But I got a whole lotta gear pieces to remind me I tried.
