Alright, so I got obsessed with finding the perfect Miles Morales figure lately. Like, the one that makes collectors nod with respect, you know? Not that easy.
The Hunt Starts… Kinda Slow
First step was obvious: hit all the usual spots. Walked into Target, scanned those action figure aisles. Saw plenty of Spider-Men, sure, but Miles? Mostly the basic kid-friendly ones. Felt kinda pointless after three stores. Same story everywhere. They had Peter Parker variants for days, but my guy Miles was MIA.
Digging Deeper Online
Obviously went online next. Searched like crazy:“rare Miles Morales figure,” “collector Miles,” whatever keywords I could think of. Filtered for imports too. That’s where the good stuff usually hides, past those cheap mass-market figures.
- Figured Import was the Way: Most US stuff felt too basic. Knew companies like Mafex or SH Figuarts probably nailed it.
- Stock Nightmare: Opened a dozen tabs, found maybe two or three cool contenders… and they were all sold out everywhere. Major bummer.
- Price Check Reality: Found one finally in stock. Took a sharp breath. Cost way more than I thought. Guess “collector grade” doesn’t mean cheap!
Almost Pulled the Trigger… Then Stopped
Seriously almost clicked ‘buy’ on that pricey Mafex one. Looks stunning in pics. But before I did, made myself slow down. Just couldn’t justify the price without seeing a real review first, not just promo shots. YouTube was flooded with reviews for common figures, but the rare Miles ones? Took ages to find a decent, honest look. Dude filming seemed just as hyped as me, finally giving the details.
Surprise Find! (Sorta)
Gave up browsing big stores online one afternoon and checked this smaller Japanese site someone mentioned deep in a forum thread. Almost missed it. Had the SH Figuarts Miles listed! Said “Low Stock.” Panic clicked. Added to cart. Wrestled with their weird registration form. Got a shipping quote that made my eyes water. Still cheaper than scalpers though! Heart pounding, entered card details. Clicked confirm. Then… nothing. Site froze. Thought I lost it. Nearly threw the laptop. Refreshed like a maniac an hour later. Order confirmation popped up! Felt like winning the lottery.
The Waiting Game (& Second Guessing)
Then came the worst part: waiting weeks for shipping. Tracked that package like a hawk. Worried constantly. “Was it fake?” “Did I overpay?” “Will it even look good in hand?” Checking forums again made it worse – saw someone else got theirs with a slightly loose leg joint. Ugh.
Finally Unboxing!
Box arrived looking beat up, naturally. Held my breath opening it. Pulled out the plastic tray… and wow. Pictures didn’t do it justice. The paint apps were crisp. So many little accessories! The hoodie piece, extra hands, different web effects. Fiddled with posing it for an hour straight. Joints were tight on mine, thankfully. Felt absolutely solid. Heavy even. The shelf presence is insane.
Was It Worth It?
Yes. Absolutely. It’s not cheap, finding it felt like work, and the wait nearly killed me. But holding it? Seeing that detail up close? Totally justifies “rare find” status. Makes the common figures look like toys. If you’re serious about collecting Spidey stuff, especially Miles, putting in the grunt work for figures like this is painful but necessary. The high prices and hunt are brutal, but landing that perfect piece makes it all stop mattering. Now… gotta track down a good spot for him on the shelf!
