Getting My Old Gear Ready
Alright, so yesterday I totally remembered my childhood Pokemon Black game was just sitting in a drawer collecting dust. Got this itch to replay it, but honestly? Didn’t feel like grinding forever for decent Pokemon or items this time. Thought, hey, maybe I could dust off my ancient Action Replay DS cartridge too – seemed like a perfect weekend project.
First thing I did? Found my old, beat-up DS Lite buried under some cables in the closet. Thank goodness it still charged! Plugged it in, crossed my fingers… and the green light came on. Huge win already. Then started rummaging through my box of games – man, I used to have everything. Found Pokemon Black looking surprisingly good.
Dealing with the Action Replay Headache
Now the tricky part: the Action Replay. Found the cartridge itself easily enough, but where the heck were my wires? Needed one to plug it into the computer, right? Searched everywhere for like twenty minutes. Finally spotted a tangled mess in another box – there it was, the USB connector. Got it plugged into my laptop.
Loaded up the Action Replay software – good thing the website still had it. Downloaded it quick. Plugged the cartridge into the wire, plugged the wire into the laptop… nothing. Software wasn’t seeing it. Started sweating a little. Unplugged, replugged, restarted the software, and on the third try? Bam! It recognized the device. Felt like conquering a mini-boss.
Searching for Those Pokemon Black Codes
Next up: finding the actual codes. Knew they existed, but man, it’s not like it was 2011 anymore. Searched online – lots of sites looked shady or just dead. Finally stumbled onto a forum post from like 2020 that seemed legit. Copied a few codes I really wanted:
- Unlimited Master Balls: Because catching legendaries without stress? Yes please.
- Wild Pokemon Modifier: Wanted to catch some starters early, make the team more fun.
- Walk Through Walls: For… exploring. Mostly for getting those annoying hidden items faster.
Pasted them one by one into the Action Replay software. Had to double-check the game ID was right for Pokemon Black – IPKE. Found it after scrolling through the list.
Putting it All to the Test
Uploaded the codes to the cartridge through the software. Took a second. Then, popped the Action Replay out of the USB cable, popped it into the DS slot, popped Pokemon Black into the game slot (that little click!), and fired up the DS.
Screen loaded the Action Replay menu – looking good. Selected the Pokemon Black game title I just uploaded, hit “Start Game”. Held my breath. Game loaded normally… Okay, time for the real test.
Opened my bag first. Scrolled down to the Poke Balls section… and there they were! A stack of 99 Master Balls! Jackpot! Next, tried walking up to a solid wall outside the first town. Held down the button combo for walk-through-walls I found online (stuff like R+B+Down or whatever – felt weird finger gymnastics!)… and just walked right through! Felt like a ghost!
Finally, tried the wild Pokemon modifier. Activated the code, stepped into some grass… Boom! A wild Tepig popped up right there on Route 1! Worked like magic. Mission accomplished!
