So today I messed around with those weird Gloves of Belligerent Skies in Baldur’s Gate 3. Was cleaning my inventory when I noticed ’em sitting there. Thought, “Eh, why not actually use these things properly?” Heard they’re strong but honestly, I just shoved ’em on Gale before without paying attention. Big mistake.
My First Dumb Attempt
Slapped the gloves on my sorcerer immediately – seemed obvious, right? Cast Magic Missile. Fwoosh! Little sparks flew. “Cool effect,” I mumbled, feeling proud… till I fought some real enemies. Barely did extra damage. Like, barely tickled ’em. Got super annoyed. Checked the tooltip again – “thunder damage”? Wait, Magic Missile’s force damage! Felt stupid. The gloves don’t work how I thought.
Actually Reading the Damn Description
Took the gloves off Gale. Yeah, feels weird admitting that. Read the fine print properly this time:
- Only triggers on THUNDER or LIGHTNING damage. Oof. Big facepalm moment.
- Puts this “Reverberation” debuff on enemies. Stacks up to 4 times.
- At max stacks? Target might just… fall flat on their butt. Extra bonus: they take even MORE thunder damage after that.
Switching Tactics & Finding the Good Stuff
Rummaged through my spellbook. Needed thunder or lightning stuff. Remembered Shocking Grasp. Okay, simple cantrip, but lightning damage? Check! Stuck gloves on Shadowheart instead – she’s always near the action. Tested it:
BZZZT! She zapped a goblin. Gloves shimmered! Saw “Reverberation: 2 stacks” pop up over the goblin’s head. Sweet! Hit the same goblin again with her next Shocking Grasp? BOOM – it actually fell prone! Laughed out loud. Worked even better with Chromatic Orb (Lightning version).
The REAL Combo That Blew My Mind
Then I got greedy. Thought: “What if the target’s wet?” Had Karlach throw a water bottle at some idiot gnolls. Then Shadowheart, wearing the gloves, hit the soaked gnoll with a Level 3 Thunderwave spell.
- THUNDER damage? Check (from Thunderwave)
- WET target? Check (doubles lightning/THUNDER damage)
- Instant “Reverberation x2”? YES (gloves triggered)
The gnoll just… exploded into red mist. Instantly dead. Actual jaw-drop moment. The raw damage multiplied like crazy, THEN the gloves added their knock-down punch. Became my favorite opener for messy fights.
My Takeaway For You
Don’t be like me. Pay attention to the damage type these gloves need. They’re NOT for your regular magic pew-pew.
Best Uses:
- Give ’em to a Cleric or Paladin or anyone who gets up close with thunder/lightning attacks. Tempest Clerics? These gloves scream their name.
- Focus wet targets – puddles, rain, water bottles – makes thunder damage insane AND triggers the gloves faster.
- Cheap spells work great! Shocking Grasp, Thunder Clap cantrip… build stacks fast without wasting big spells.
- When something has max stacks? Hammer it with your BIGGEST thunder spell. They’re prone, take extra damage… perfect execution moment.
Felt clever figuring this combo out. Wish I’d known it before level 10 though! Go fry some fish, pals.
