Why I Wanted This Mod
Got real tired of BG3’s four-character party cap. Saw all those cool NPCs sitting at camp while Karlach kept begging to join my missions. Felt like wasting potential companions after spending hours recruiting them.
My Install Struggle
Grabbed the mod from BG3 Nexus first. Didn’t bother reading install notes because “how hard could it be”? Big mistake. My game crashed straight to desktop at launch. Took me three attempts realizing I’d skipped the Script Extender dependency. Had to delete everything and reinstall mods step-by-step while muttering curse words.
What Changed When It Actually Worked
Loaded my Act 2 save with seven freaking companions:
- Battles became chaotic fun – Imagine Lae’zel and Karlach rushing while Shadowheart and Gale carpet-bombed enemies. Total overkill but hilarious
- Dialogue turned messy – All companions tried talking over each other during cutscenes. Jaheira’s speech got interrupted by Astarion’s sarcastic comments. Absolute clown fiesta
- Pathfinding nightmares – Group kept getting stuck in narrow caves like idiots. Had to manually reposition everyone every five minutes
Unexpected Consequences
Game balance went straight to hell. That githyanki patrol near Mountain Pass? Obliterated them in two turns with eight characters spamming spells. Felt cool for about five minutes then got boring real quick. Also noticed strange bugs like vanishing inventory slots and permanent status effects after long rests. Started fearing save corruption after Gale disappeared inside a wall texture.
Final Verdict After 10 Hours
Uninstalled the mess. Yeah running with Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Karlach AND Minthara was awesome fanservice at first. But the game ain’t built for it. Broke immersion harder than Astarion trying to bite a construct. Still glad I tested it though – now I appreciate the four-character limit like drinking water after cheap tequila.
