My First Try Was a Mess
So, I figured the Carrion Heart quest in BG3 swamp area sounded interesting. Went down there, completely missed the warning signs near the hut. Big mistake. Poison gas everywhere, health just plummeting. Tried drinking antidotes like crazy while fighting Ghouls, felt like juggling knives while riding a unicycle. Died horribly. Reloaded.
Okay, Plan B (Sneaky This Time)
Second attempt, I thought “Maybe rush the shiny altar thing?” Sent my rogue ahead. Bad idea again. Almost got him trapped on the raised stone circle thing near the altar, surrounded by Ghouls popping out. Tried fighting from there. Awful. High ground sucked because the Ghouls just climbed up, gang-tackled me. Got pushed off, fell into poison, chaos. Another reload.
Finally Figured the Cheap Way Out:
- Forget the Poison: Dumb me kept trying to “solve” the poison area. Waste of time. Sent my dude with the longest legs (Lae’zel, big jump) straight up the right side cliffs. Ignored the gas completely.
- Beeline to the Stone: Jumped, climbed vines, whatever. Just get that one character onto the tall stone platform near the altar fast.
- Turtle Up High: Once up there? Don’t move off it! Those Ghouls can climb? Yeah, but only two can really fit up top at once usually. Much easier fights when you’re not drowning in poison gas AND mobbed.
- Kiting is Key: If other party members are getting chased? RUN THEM AROUND. Seriously. Don’t fight low. Just keep them sprinting in circles, taking hits only when needed, healing potions chugged mid-run. Lure the Ghouls towards the cliff.
- Ranged Death Spam: Character safely up top? Pew pew everything with magic missiles, arrows, whatever ranged trash you got. Don’t conserve. Just melt stuff. Especially targets chasing your kiting buddies.
- Loot Fast & Run: Fight over? Grab the nasty heart off the altar. Don’t hang around admiring the swamp smells. Just get out fast.
So Here’s What I Learned
DON’T fight fair in the gas. DON’T get stuck fighting low ground if you can help it. DO send someone mobile up high instantly. DO abuse movement and chokepoints hard. This quest rewards cheesing it something fierce. Spent way less time and resources doing it this way. Felt kinda dumb for the first two wipes, but hey, learned the cheap trick! Sharing so you guys don’t suffer like I did.
