Alright folks, let me tell you about the Chamber of Courage in Baldur’s Gate 3. Figured this might save some of you a headache.
Finding the Damn Thing
So, I was poking around the Rosymorn Monastery ruins, right? Exploring every nook and cranny like I always do. Stumbled across this huge, fancy door with engravings. Looked important. Got closer, saw it needed this Prisoner’s Key. Crap.
Getting Inside Was Half the Battle
Took me ages to find where that key dropped. Turns out I had to go back and completely clear out the Githyanki Infirmary near the big bridge area. Took out the two guards inside, dug through their stuff, and bam – found the key. Felt like a scavenger hunt already.
Finally got back, shoved the key in, door creaked open. Stepped inside to this big, echoey chamber. Immediately see these pressure plates on the floor and this glowing Lathander’s Light gadget thing on the wall. Plus, a big-ass crest glowing above another door. Uh oh. Puzzle time.
Figuring Out the Stupid Pressure Plates
Standing on any plate just made these shadowy ghosts pop out. Tried fighting them at first. Wrong move. They just kept spawning endlessly and pounding on my party. Gale almost got pasted. Lesson learned: Fighting is useless here.
Stepped off, ghosts vanished. Okay. Think smarter. Looked at the crest – three symbols glowing on it. Then saw the Lathander’s Light device. Hovering over it showed it needed a spell attack or a light source. Whacked it with Shillelagh on Shadowheart. Nothing. Shot it with a regular arrow from Astarion. Zip. Got annoyed.
Then, pure accident: had Shadowheart cast Sacred Flame near it. Ding! The light device lit up! A beam shot out! Realized ANY radiant damage, or probably Daylight spells, hits the switch. Key was turning that Light device on before stepping on plates.
The Speed Run Tactic That Actually Works
Once the light beam was active from Lathander’s Light, THEN I stepped on the plates. Boom! Ghosts appeared again… but INSTEAD of attacking, they started melting! The light beam was destroying them automatically! Sweet!
- Activate the Light Device: Hit it with any Radiant damage spell (Sacred Flame, Guiding Bolt) or Daylight. Seeing that beam fire up feels good.
- STEP QUICKLY! As soon as the beam’s on, you gotta hustle to step on all three pressure plates fast.
- Watch ‘Em Melt: The ghosts pop up one after another as you hit the plates, but the beam zaps them into nothing immediately. Don’t stop moving.
No summoning other creatures needed, no fighting, just pure sprinting across those plates while the beam does its job.
The Sweet, Sweet Loot (Spoiler Territory!)
Hit the third plate as the last ghost poofed. That big crest glowed brighter, the door rumbled… and opened!
Inside? A small fancy chest. Opened it up expecting maybe some gold, right?
Found these instead:
- Gloves of the Automaton: Seriously nice gloves! Let you cast Invisibility on yourself once per day, no concentration needed. Perfect for getting out of sticky situations or setting up ambushes.
- Helm of Grit: This helmet is sneaky good. If you’ve got less than half your max HP when combat starts, it just flat-out gives you an extra Bonus Action that turn. Crazy useful for clutch moves.
Plus the usual pile of gold and gems. But those two items? Totally worth the ten minutes of figuring out the damn puzzle. The gloves went straight on Astarion, the helm looked perfect for my sometimes-too-squishy Tav.
Was It Worth the Hassle?
Honestly? At first I was pissed at the ghosts. Felt like one of those cheap “gotcha!” traps. But nailing the timing, seeing the beam melt them while I sprinted, finally cracking it? Felt really satisfying. And the loot? Legitimately great items, especially early-ish game like this. Definitely recommend knocking it out when you find it – just skip the fighting and go straight for the light switch sprint method!
