Item management is really important when playing Diablo 2.You’ll often pick up all sorts of things and have to judge for yourself what’s worth money and what you should take back to town and sell. Some of the things that look ordinary are actually worth quite a bit of money, like staffs, scepters, clubs, or armor. You may not be very good at picking them out at first, but play around with them a few times and you’ll know what’s worth keeping.
You could pick up all the goodies you see and bring them back to sell, but that would slow down the pace as you spend more time clearing monsters in the combat zone. It’s up to you, no one is forcing you to do anything.
Temporary places to put things
If your backpack, belt, and Hradec cube are full, there’s a “trick” you can do to make some room:
Open your backpack, mouse over an item, and exit the game. When you come back into the game, the item will still be on your mouse. This method only works on small spaces that are 4 squares wide and 2 squares high.
But if you’re a Necromancer, don’t rely too much on summoning Steel Stone Demons to carry monsters.Because that’s not a reliable method, it’s easy to get spiked, and it doesn’t help you load things.
Items that can be stacked together
There are some items that can be placed in a stack, such as:
- Keys.
- Throwing weapons (e.g. flying daggers, javelins)
- Bows and arrows (arrows, crossbow arrows)
- Potions (poisons, explosive vials)
When you mouse over these things, you can see how many of them there are.As you use them, the number will slowly decrease until you run out.
If you want to combine two piles of the same item, it’s also easy: just pick up one pile and put it on top of the other. The system will automatically add the quantities together. If the maximum number of stacks is exceeded, the extra will become a new pile.Once it’s together it can’t be taken apart.
Note: Only identical items can be combined!
Sort items by quality level
Items are sorted into several grades, from worst to best:
- poor quality items (worst)
- Ordinary items
- super-strength items
- magic items
- sets/bright gold (same probability)
- Dark gold items (best)
The drop chances of low quality items and super items are related to the level of the monster or the scenario. For example, fighting high level monsters is more likely to produce good items.

Items and gold on the ground will disappear
Don’t leave things on the ground for too long if you don’t particularly need them.Items on the ground will disappear slowly:
- Normal items: 10 minutes
- Magic items: 20 minutes
- Bright gold, set, dark gold: about 30 minutes
So, if you see something good, pick it up or it’ll be gone in a while.
What is durability?
Equipment will break after a long time, that’s what durability is all about. The equipment will show two numbers, the front is how much durability you have left now, and the back is how much in total.
When the durability is almost gone, an outline icon of the equipment will appear on the top right of the screen. If the icon turns yellow, it means it’s almost broken; if it turns red, it’s already broken and can’t be used, so you must get it repaired immediately.
Repairing equipment can be done by looking for the blacksmith in the camp.Magic equipment is more expensive to repair, but it is still recommended to fix it, after all, it is worth money.
Remember to check your equipment for damage every time you return to town.If you accidentally go out to fight with bad equipment, it could be dangerous.
Tips for repairing equipment
- If you don’t have enough money to fix it all at once, then it can only be partially repaired.
- If the durability is already 0, you will have to repair all of it to make it work.
- The maximum equipment durability is 333 points.
What is “invisible” equipment?
Sometimes you will see translucent equipment that is “invisible”.This equipment has a higher durability, but has a drawback: NOT REPAIRABLE.If you don’t want it to break, you can put a Zod Rune in it so it won’t wear out.
It’s kinda useful for mercenaries to use intangible equipment without having it lose durability.
- Invisible Weapon: +50% attack power
- Invisible Armor: +50% to Defense
However, it is important to note that the two attributes “indestructible” and “intangible” rarely appear on the same piece of equipment at the same time, except for some dark gold equipment.
If you sell damaged invisible equipment, you can only exchange it for 1 gold coin.
Poor, Rough, Broken, Damaged Gear
These words sound pretty much the same and mean pretty much the same thing: Worse than average quality. They have a lower maximum durability, and:
- Weapons do less damage.
- Armor has worse defense
Bows and crossbows don’t show damage, though.
What’s the point of “overpowered” gear?
Overpowered gear is better than normal gear in the following ways:
- Weapons: higher hit rate, more damage, more durability
- Armor: stronger defense, higher durability.
Some of the super equipment will also be “invisible”, so they will have additional benefits:
- Armor: +5%~15% defense, +10%~15% durability.
- Weapons: +5%~15% damage, +10%~15% durability, +1~+3% hit rate.
Only two of these attributes can appear together at most, there is no such thing as all three.
How to see the defense value of armor?
Here are two simple formulas:
- Super strong but not invisible armor:
- Defense = (Maximum Defense Value + 1) × (100 + Defense Percentage) ÷ 100
- Super strong and is invisible armor:
- Defense = [(Max Defense + 1) × 1.5] × (100 + Defense Percentage) ÷ 100
All results in the calculation will be rounded up to the nearest whole number, no decimals will be kept.
Headgear is a special being
Although the headdress belongs to a type of helmet, it has some exclusive properties that other helmets do not have. The character’s hairstyle does not change when wearing a headdress, for example, the Amazon still has his original blonde hair.
However, the defense value of a headdress is usually a little lower than a regular helmet.
Character-specific equipment
Some equipment is designed specifically for a certain character, such as a barbarian, witch, paladin, etc..The first line of the gear description will tell you if it’s character-specific or not.
How does Aura Gathering gear work?
Polyglot gear allows you to use skills that are not part of your profession. For example, an Amazon can use Fireball, provided you have gear with the Aura Gathering attribute.
How to use it is simple: press S to open the skill bar, find that Aura Gathering skill, and right-click on the target to release it.There is a limit to the number of times you can use each skill, so if you run out, you’ll have to go to town to repair your equipment to regain the number of times you can use it.
What’s the deal with weapon speed?
Different characters may use the same weapon at different speeds. For example, a “fast” dagger may be faster in the hands of a barbarian than in the hands of a mage.
The speed of a weapon is expressed as a numerical value, with the larger the value the slower it is.For example, if three weapons are [0], [-20], and [20], then [20] is the slowest.
If you have a “haste” sword, and a gear that speeds up your attacks, then you do get faster.
How do I know if I’m the fastest?
There is no definitive way to know if you have reached your fastest attack speed. But in theory, Haste can be faster. For example, if a barbarian uses the “Frenzy” skill, his attack speed will be so fast that you can barely tell the difference.
How does weapon damage work?
For example, if you have a weapon with the “King’s” attribute (200% enhanced damage) and the “Slaughter” attribute (+20 max damage). The 200% enhancement is counted first, and then 20 points of damage are added.
If you have an aura or pantheon effect, the algorithm will be more complicated, but the general order is: first percentage bonus, then fixed bonus.
Where do I see damage against undead and demons?
These damage attributes don’t show up on the character panel, you need to estimate them yourself.
Equipment quality level (Qlvl)
Each base type of equipment has a fixed level. For example, if a certain sword is Qlvl 10, it doesn’t matter which monster dropped it or whether it has magic properties or not, its base level won’t change.
Do monsters drop specific equipment?
No.However, gold monsters and bosses have a higher chance of dropping magical equipment, and bosses also drop more gold.
Does player level affect drops?
No.The drops are only related to monster level and scenario level.
Do locked chests drop better items?
No, but they usually drop more, about twice as much as unlocked chests.
How do I transfer items between characters?
If you have several accounts under the same server, you can transfer items by building a password room. The method is:
- Build a game with a password
- Throw items on the floor.
- Exit, and get another account to come in and pick it up.
This way is risky though, as the items will disappear after a while and you’ll have to move fast.
You can’t transfer items between characters in the standalone version.
Does Blizzard allow trading between players?
Blizzard does not officially support trading items between players.Online trading is risky and they won’t be responsible if you lose something.
How do I get better gear?
If you want to get more advanced equipment, you can try the following methods:
- Wear equipment with MF (Increase Magic Item Drop Rate).
- Open all the chests, barrels and stones you can.
- Kill blue or gold monsters, especially those that are easy to hit and have many refresh points.
- Repeatedly kill the bosses of each chapter, e.g. Diablo, Baal.
- Kill super gold monsters, such as Bloodbird and Marquess.
- Spotting monsters on monster-heavy maps, such as the Skinned Jungle.
- Hit activation jars and monster shrines to create blue or gold monsters
In short, the more monsters you kill, the greater your chances of brushing out good equipment.
