So you wanna do the Holy Grail thing in Diablo 2? Man, I remember first hearing about it and thinking it sounded crazy. Collect every single unique and set item? That’s like hunting unicorns. But I figured why not give it a shot, right?
Getting My Feet Wet
First thing I did was dig out my old Blizzard launcher and fire up D2 Resurrected. Decided to roll with a Sorceress for starters – faster farming. Dusted off my cold skills build and just dove into Nightmare difficulty. Realized quick this ain’t no weekend project.
My early tries were rough:
- Killed Mephisto like 50 times straight – best drop was a crappy unique dagger
- Farmed Andariel till my eyes bled for that Stone of Jordan ring
- Stashed every trash unique just to feel like I was making progress
Figuring Out The Tracking Mess
After two weeks of chaos, I knew I needed organization. Wrote down a basic checklist in my gaming notebook:
- Put a big X next to items I’d found
- Made special marks for super rares like Crown of Ages
- Kept getting sidetracked trying to remember what dropped where
Then I remembered some online tools people use for tracking. Tried a web-based one – but got paranoid about browser crashes. Finally settled on a simple spreadsheet where I can see missing pieces at a glance.
Developing My Farming Route
Started learning which bosses drop what. My weekly ritual became:
- Monday: Speed-run Countess for runes (gotta gear up)
- Wednesday: Hammer Ancient Tunnels looking for Griffon’s Eye
- Weekend grind: Blitz through Mephisto/Pindleskin like it’s my job
Felt great when I snagged Harlequin Crest last month after 300+ runs. But finding Tyrael’s Might? Man that’s still just a myth in my game.
Where I’m At Now
After six months and god knows how many hours:
- Checked off 68% of uniques – the common ones are done
- Still chasing those annoying set pieces like Griswold’s shield
- Those ultra-rares? Yeah right, maybe next decade
Biggest lesson? Patience and obsession go hand-in-hand. Now I just target-farm while catching up on podcasts. Still get that dopamine hit every time something new drops though!
