I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo 2 lately, mostly starting new characters. Early game can be rough, man. You get wrecked pretty easily. Then someone mentioned the Sigon’s Complete Steel set. Figured I gotta try this thing out myself and see if it’s as good as they say for starters.
First Hunt Was Rough
Started a brand new Paladin on Normal difficulty. Goal was simple: find pieces of the Sigon’s set. Sounded easy, right? Nope. Took forever. Ran the Countess in Black Marsh maybe twenty times hoping for runes to trade. Finally got enough crappy runes to swap with another player for Sigon’s Gauntlets. Small win, but hey.
Kept grinding Act 1 areas – Cold Plains, Stony Field, Tristram runs – anything that dropped normal gear. Was super boring. Like, falling asleep hitting skeletons boring. Found Sigon’s Gage gloves myself while killing Blood Raven! That felt good, saved me some trading.
Putting Pieces Together
Eventually scraped together the whole thing over a few days:
- Sigon’s Guard Tower Shield (dropped off Andariel!)
- Sigon’s Wrap Plated Belt (traded some perfect gems)
- Sigon’s Sabot Greaves (found in Tristram)
- Sigon’s Shelter Gothic Plate (another lucky Andariel drop)
- Sigon’s Visor Great Helm (got this one gambling in Act 2)
- Sigon’s Gage Gauntlets (see above)
Took way longer than I thought. Shoulda just kept trading with folks instead of trying to find it all myself.
Testing This Thing Out
Finally wore the whole kit. Dude. Freakin’ awesome. The bonuses stacking are insane for early game.
- The Attack Rating bonus? Huge. Suddenly hitting things constantly.
- Life steal? That felt broken. Barely need potions anymore.
- Defense skyrocketed. Getting whacked in Act 2 felt like little tickles.
Made my Paladin basically a walking tank. Cleared Act 2 Tal Rasha’s tombs like it was nothing. Even Duriel went down super quick – that stunned me. Usually he wrecks me. Went all the way through Act 3 Mephisto too. Felt easy mode.
Why It’s So Damn Good Early
Okay, so why bother? Cause you put on like two pieces, you already get big bonuses. Don’t even need the whole thing immediately:
- Gloves + Belt: Gives you 10% Life Steal and +20 Strength. 20 Strength! Free stat points basically.
- Gloves + Boots: 30% Increased Attack Speed. Super fast hits.
- Two Pieces Anywhere: +1 All Skills. Stupid good boost so early.
You mix and match just a couple pieces with other stuff you find and you’re instantly way stronger. Made leveling my Paladin through Normal smooth as butter. Way easier than struggling with crappy random rares.
Downside? It starts losing its shine in Nightmare difficulty. You gotta swap it out later for better stuff obviously. But for getting your character rolling? Hard to beat how much easier it makes the grind. Definitely recommend grabbing pieces early if you see ’em drop or trade. Totally worth the effort.
