Okay so yesterday I spent like five hours grinding with that new Diablo 3 Necro build everyone’s screaming about. You know the one, supposed to melt everything? Yeah, that hype train. Figured I’d put it through its paces myself. Spoiler alert: my thumbs are still sore.
First off, I dug my Level 70 Paragon like 800 Necro out of storage. Poor guy was gathering dust next to a stash tab full of forgotten legendaries. Gotta gear him up, right? All the guides kept shouting about needing these specific ancient pieces, and one super rare ring. Off to the Rift hamster wheel I go.
Hopped into Greater Rifts around level 75, just trying to get a feel. Basic setup was Bone Spear as the main damage dealer. Feels good poking stuff from a distance. But wait, gotta manage Essence. Essence disappears faster than free pizza at a LAN party. So slotted in Grim Scythe with the rune that gives back Essence per hit. Swing, swing, swing! Okay, better.
Now, here’s where things get messy. They call it a skill combo for a reason. The real juice comes from popping a bone prison around some chumps, then immediately blowing up corpses near them. Boom! Big damage. Sounds simple. It was NOT simple.
The Execution Nightmare
So picture this: I’m frantically running around T16. See a big pack. My brain goes:
- Step one: Bone Prison (right click). Wait, which button was that again?
- Step two: Spam skeletons to generate corpses (hold down key). Why aren’t they dying fast enough?!
- Step three: Blast those corpses with Corpse Explosion (another button!). Oh crap, Bone Prison expired already!
I swear, I looked like a headless chicken playing whack-a-mole with my keyboard. Half the time I’d prison one lonely guy while the elite smacked me in the face. Other times, I’d blow up corpses outside the prison zone. Genius.
And let’s not forget the army. Keeping Bone Golem alive while micro-managing skeletons and revives? Way more juggling than I signed up for. My Revives kept wandering off to pick fights I didn’t want. Golem gets vaporized. Suddenly I’m squishy necro burger meat.
The “Ah-Ha!” Moment (Sort Of)
Took like three hours of wiping in G90s before I kinda got the rhythm down. Found a groove:
- Lead with Decrepify curse (slow them down, buy time).
- Drop Bone Prison ON THE ELITE.
- Quickly spam Grim Scythe on the edge to fill Essence (gotta be ready!).
- Unleash Bone Spear INTO the prisoned group.
- Bonus points if mobs die near the prison, blowing corpses ON them.
Still clunky as heck, but managed to clear a GR95 without dying too many times. Finally saw those big yellow numbers they promised. Felt good, man. But honestly, this build feels like piloting a fighter jet. It slaps when you nail the combo, but good luck doing it consistently while dodging lasers and poison pools.
Ended the session tired but kinda satisfied. It’s powerful, no doubt. Maybe even “best” raw damage. But man, is it ever sweaty to play right. Requires crazy precise button mashing and positioning. Think I need a nap before trying higher tiers. Would I recommend it? Only if you like pain.
