Diablo IV Season 7: A Detailed Guide to Mystic Gems

Yesterday, I finally started playing Diablo IV Season 7. As soon as I entered the game, my inventory was suddenly filled with shiny little stones called “Legendary Mysterious Gems.” They looked pretty cool, but I had no idea what they were for.

My first thought was, “Oh, these must be like the old ones—you insert them into equipment.” So I rushed to the jeweler and spent a lot of gold to open the slots on several pieces of equipment. But what happened? The jeweler said, “I’m sorry, I can’t install these new stones.” I was completely stunned—I wasted my money!

Later, I heard that there was an NPC called the “Mystic Scholar” who could handle these gems. I rushed over to check, and sure enough, there was an option called “Convert Legendary Attributes.” Clicking on it revealed that these mysterious gems needed to be used through this system.

To use this feature, you need to meet two conditions: first, you must have a piece of equipment that is “sacred” or better; second, this piece of equipment must have an empty slot. I searched through my backpack for a long time and finally found a nice sacred ring with an empty slot. Now I could finally get started.

The real process of using gems was particularly chaotic

The real challenge was yet to come. I dragged a gem called “Boiling Chaos” onto the ring, and with a click, it was installed. It looked simple enough, but I had no idea what the effect would be.

I took the ring outside the city and fought a few minor monsters. I could kill them, but the damage was inconsistent—sometimes a bunch of numbers would pop up, and other times there was no reaction at all. There was no discernible pattern.

To test it properly, I decided to go to a harder place—Nightmare Dungeon. The moment I entered, everything went haywire. Sometimes the ground suddenly erupted in flames; other times, green poisonous water would seep out of the ground; and once, the monsters seemed to be sucked together by some force, squeezing into a single mass.

I tried three different gems:

  • One that made the monsters move toward the center, as if pulled by an invisible force;
  • One that froze the ground, and the ice would shatter and hurt people;
  • And one that released a poisonous circle, causing damage to anyone standing inside.

To be honest, each one had some use, but none were particularly strong. Plus, every time I switched gems, the effects were different, feeling completely random.

I’ve been grinding for days, and all I got was junk.

What drives me crazy is the low drop rate. I wanted to find a useful gem, so I spent every day grinding “Hell Tide” and various nightmare dungeons. I played for hours, but almost everything I got was useless junk, mostly material fragments, which was really frustrating.

Sometimes, after finally getting a new gem, I’d equip it only to find that it’s worse than the original. It’s like running your hardest only to realize you’ve been going in the wrong direction—it’s really demoralizing.

I’ve also tried the “guaranteed drop” method mentioned online, but I didn’t feel any guarantee at all. RNG (random number generation) is just too unpredictable. Sometimes you get lucky and get a powerful gem right away; most of the time, you end up wasting dozens of attempts.

Slowly figured out a few useful tips

Although the process was painful, after playing about fifty times, I summarized some useful tips:

1. Different professions require different gems

For example, when I played the Necromancer, a gem that could gather monsters was particularly useful.I equipped this gem on my amulet, and the skeleton soldiers were much more efficient at fighting monsters because they were all sucked together and exploded in a large area.

However, when I equipped the same gem on my wizard character, I didn’t feel any difference. Since wizards don’t have summoning skills, the “monster attraction” effect was useless. So remember: Whether a gem is good or not depends on whether your class needs it.

2. Don’t wait for “perfect equipment,” use what you have now

Many people think that they should save good gems and use them later when they get top-level equipment. But I’ve found that this is a waste of time. If you have a decent piece of sacred equipment now, just equip it with good gems and you’ll become stronger right away.

Instead of waiting for “the perfect moment,” it’s better to get stronger first, clear the dungeon sooner, and then get better equipment.

3. Pairing two gems may be more effective

Once, I happened to use two related gems: one created ice blocks, and the other shattered them. When used together, the damage was significantly increased.

But I tried using three at the same time, and the screen got too messy with skill effects flying everywhere, and I couldn’t even see who I was attacking. So my advice is: unless you know exactly what you’re doing, stick to using two gems at most.

4. Remember, the Mystic Scholar is the key

Once again, don’t go looking for jewelers! They can’t help you equip these new gems. For everything related to mystic gems, you need to find the mysterious scholar in black robes who speaks in a sinister voice.

If you have any old equipment you don’t need, you can recycle it for materials. Be sure to give your gems to the mysterious scholar so you can avoid unnecessary detours and waste of money.

Now my character is finally starting to look like something

After messing around for a while, I gave up on gem-setting for the wizard and went back to focusing on the necromancer. Later, I obtained a decent “Ancestral Artifact” and equipped it with a mystic gem, which allowed it to deal both shadow damage and explosion effects, making monster hunting much faster.

Although I haven’t obtained the legendary “Soul Shatter” gem yet, my current setup is sufficient for comfortably clearing dungeons.

To summarize:
When the new gem system first came out, it was really frustrating. The rules were unclear, and drops were based on luck. But as long as you experiment, switch things up, and observe, you’ll eventually find a combination that suits your playstyle.

Don’t be afraid of failure, and don’t be afraid of wasting resources. After all, gaming is all about learning from your mistakes and getting stronger.
