The Cheats Just Wouldn’t Work
Okay so I spent all morning trying to cheat in Pokemon Black on my DS emulator. Wanted unlimited Master Balls like everybody else, right? Downloaded fresh Action Replay codes, fired up DeSmuME, and… nothing. Zip. My character walked right past invisible items, rare Pokemon never spawned, it was like the cheats didn’t even exist. Super frustrating when you just wanna breeze through the game.
My First Stupid Mistake
At first I thought I messed up the installation. Checked the cheat file location: User > Cheats folder, right? Yep, files were there. Toggled cheat codes on and off in the emulator menu like twenty times. Still nada. Tried different versions of Pokemon Black ROMs too. Even reinstalled the whole DeSmuME emulator – same garbage result. Starting to think Nintendo put anti-cheat magic in this game.
The Real Problem (And How I Felt Dumb)
Turns out I overlooked something stupid basic. Googled around forums and realized many codes require enabling Raw checkbox. Apparently Pokémon Black hates Action Replay formatting. Went into the cheat editor and bam! Saw that checkbox sitting there untouched like a moron. Enabled Raw mode for all cheats and saved changes. Took five seconds to fix what cost me three hours.
Other Tricks That Saved Me
After fixing the Raw thing, some codes still glitched. Here’s what else worked:
- Removing spaces between code lines (DeSmuME hates extra gaps)
- Deleting old cheat files instead of overwriting (leftover junk breaks things)
- Testing codes one by one to find busted ones
Pro tip: Master Ball codes usually work but rare spawn cheats are flaky. If one fails, try similar codes from different sources. Found one working combo after testing three different ‘shiny Pokemon’ codes.
Finally Seeing Cheats Work
Loaded the patched cheats, started Pokemon Black again, and holy crap – Master Ball in my bag immediately. Walked into tall grass and BAM, shiny Patrat. Felt like winning the lottery after smashing my head against the keyboard all day. Moral of the story? Always check that Raw checkbox first before rage-quitting. Should’ve read the fine print ages ago.
