Okay guys, so I was deep into Red Dead Redemption 2 last night, trying to finish up that weird genealogy strand. You know the one – where you gotta find all those gravesites? Felt like tracking down ghosts in the wilderness.
Getting Stuck on the Braithwaite Mess
Everything was going fine until that damn Braithwaite woman pointed me towards “the old family homestead.” Typical vague frontier directions, right? All she said was “near Rhodes somewhere.” Great, super helpful. Spent a solid hour just riding around south of Rhodes like an idiot, checking every shack and abandoned wagon I saw. Found way more angry boars than houses. Starting to think the old lady was messing with me, honestly.
Ditching the Terrible Game Map
Tried pulling up the in-game map. Big mistake. That thing’s useless for finding specific little buildings. Too cluttered, and trying to scan it while riding just made me dizzy. Got frustrated, figured there had to be a smarter way.
Switching Gears to Landmarks
Stopped my horse near Flatneck Station, took a breath. Looked around properly. Realized I needed real things I could see from the saddle, not squinting at tiny map icons.
Landmarks That Actually Helped
- The Big River: The key was spotting the Kamassa River snaking south of Rhodes. Hard to miss that blue line.
- That Lone Railroad Bridge: Rode south outta Rhodes sticking vaguely west until I hit the railroad tracks. Followed ’em south until I crossed one single railroad bridge over the river. Impossible to miss because it’s the only one right there.
- Immediate Left After the Bridge: As soon as my horse’s hooves hit dirt on the other side of the bridge, I turned sharp left, heading east along the riverbank right away.
- Dilapidated Gate = Target: Followed the riverbank closely maybe 100 yards? Boom. Super run-down gate tucked into the trees on the left (river side). Looked forgotten. Pushed it open (barely hanging on!) and rode in. Tracks stopped near some crumbling foundations. Exactly the spot.
Nailing It & Why Simple Directions Rule
Finally saw those overgrown stones hidden amongst the weeds. Took me 15 minutes once I ignored the map and followed those actual visual points:
- Cross the one railroad bridge over Kamassa River south of Rhodes.
- Immediately turn LEFT.
- Hug the riverbank moving east.
- Look for the decrepit wooden gate tucked away.
Much faster than wandering randomly. Lesson learned: Forget trying to “find” it on the map first. Pick obvious landmarks near it you can actually ride to, then navigate from there by sight. Saves so much damn time. Now, if only the in-game compass gave clearer “warm/cold” hints!
