So last weekend my buddy Pete hits me up yelling “yo let’s burn down some cannibals in The Forest!” Sounds great right? Except Pete plays on PC and I’m here grinding on PS5. That started this whole wild goose chase to figure out if we could actually play together. Spoiler alert: we couldn’t, but holy crap was it a journey.
The Messy Start
First thing I did was boot up the game while yelling at my headset “CAN YOU SEE MY SERVER?!” Nothing. Dead silence. Pete’s like “bro I see zero lobbies.” Okay fine, quick Google search. Typed “can forest play together ps5 and pc” like a dork. Five different articles say five different things. Some say it works, some scream absolutely not. Confusion level: maximum.
Started banging my head against settings menus. Went to multiplayer, hammered ‘host game’ on my PS5, made it public and everything. Pete still nada. Tried his Steam invite link – PlayStation just blinked at me like I spoke alien.
Operation Dig Deeper
At this point I’m half-laughing, half-screaming. Even checked The Forest’s store pages. Steam says “multiplayer” but PlayStation description? Dead quiet about crossplay. Classic sign things are busted.
Went deeper down the rabbit hole. Hopped onto Reddit threads and gaming forums. Real folks screaming into the void:
- PS4 player crying “where PC friends??”
- Xbox dude ranting “why my invite not working?!”
- Steam veteran sighing “crossplay ain’t real here people”
The Brutal Truth
Took me three snack breaks to accept reality. The Forest straight up doesn’t care about your console wars. You wanna build treehouses with buddies? Tough luck unless you all buy the same system. Period.
So Pete and I? Ended up sending each other terrible memes of crying cowboys instead. Felt like that guy staring at rain through a window while drinking soup meme. Except soup was my disappointment.
Lessons Learned: Don’t trust random articles. Dig through actual player rants. If the game ignores your crossplay prayers? Make better friends. Or just buy whatever plastic box they’re using. Seriously though? Devs please fix this crap. I’ll bake you digital cookies.
