Alright folks, been messing with Monster Hunter Wilds lately and damn, those monsters are no joke early on. Thought I’d share how I finally got some killer builds going, ’cause let me tell you, it took some trial and error.
Started Out Getting My Ass Handed To Me
Jumped into the game super hyped, grabbed my longsword like always. Met this ugly rock lizard thing first – looked easy. Big mistake. Got charged into next week almost immediately. Tried blocking? Weapon sucked for that. Dodging? Felt sluggish. Burned through my healing potions like candy just trying to stay alive. Seriously, three tries on that stupid lizard, three bullshit carts back to camp. Frustrating as hell.
Realized I Needed Gear That Actually Worked
Had this moment staring at the quest failed screen, covered in mud again. My starter gear was garbage, obviously. Checked the smithy and man, tons of options. Didn’t wanna just copy some online thing, but knew I needed armor that actually helped. Saw the gear from that annoying-ass thunder lizard I kept getting zapped by. It had this skill… “Thunder Resistance” or something. “Okay, fine,” I thought, “maybe actually counter the thing that’s killing me?” Seemed smart for once.
Time To Farm That Annoying Thunder Lizard
Swapped to a lance – better reach for poking those jumpy thunder bastards. Hunted that specific annoying-ass lizard again… and again… and oh god again. Needed its scales, its claws, needed more of its weird shocky sacs. Kept breaking parts, trying to capture it sometimes. Felt grindy as hell.
- Spamming poke-poke-poke with the lance.
- Dodging sideways constantly to avoid the stupid shocks.
- Mashed the trap button when it limped back.
- Bought way too many trap tools and tranquilizers.
Got zapped plenty, still carted a couple times trying to be quick. But slowly, oh so slowly, got the pieces. Felt like victory getting enough parts for a whole low-rank set.
Crafted The Stuff & Did Some Tinkering
Ran straight to the smithy, practically threw the parts at him. Crafted the full thunder lizard armor set – looked kinda ridiculous, like wearing a neon hazard sign. But that juicy thunder resist? Instantly noticeable. Took far less damage from the shocks. Still needed a decent weapon though. Remembered I had parts from the rock lizard. Crafted a raw damage focused hammer. Simple, smashy. No element, just big numbers when I connect. Felt solid.
Still had some slots on the gear. Shoved in some basic defense and attack charms I’d found while running around. Nothing fancy, just whatever pushed my stats up a bit. Didn’t have super rare decorations yet, obviously.
The Payoff Was Sweet
Went straight back to hunt that thunder jerk again. What a difference! Took hits I swear would’ve stunned me before. Hammer hits were crunching hard on its head. Killed it way faster, felt smoother. Used what I learned dodging its patterns, but actually had the gear to back it up. Didn’t cart once. Massive relief. From getting stomped repeatedly to actually feeling powerful.
Sure, it’s not some super min-maxed endgame build. But damn, building specifically for the problem monster using stuff I actually farmed myself? That’s the sweet spot for me early on. Makes hunts actually fun instead of a frustrating slog. Anyway, back to farming something else now… heard there’s a spicy pineapple bird. Cheers!
