Okay so today I was totally stuck on that Mayrina locket puzzle in BG3, seriously frustrating. Wasted like an hour running around that swamp place near the hag’s house, you know the spot? Found Mayrina’s locket real early after talking to those brothers, but unlocking it? Big nope.
What The Puzzle Looks Like
You find this locket locked tight, sitting near three stones kinda spread out in a messy triangle shape next to a ruined house. Each stone has one animal carved on it near the base – one got a bird, one got a snake, the last one got a fish. Figured I had to interact with the stones in the right order or something, right?
Tried pressing ’em randomly first. Standing on the bird stone while looking at the bird carving on the locket pedestal? Nothing. Jumping on all three really fast? Zilch. Even tried throwing water or casting spells on the stones – total waste of time.
The “Oh Duh” Moment
After wandering off to kill some goblins to cool off, I came back to the locket pedestal to poke it again. That’s when I actually looked UP. Right above the locket spot, carved super small on the wood beam of the ruined wall, were three little symbols: a flame-looking one, some wavy lines like water, and lines like wind.
Bingo. It clicked. Those symbols matched the ELEMENTS for the animals! Fire for the snake (snakes feel kinda fiery?), water for the fish (obvious), and wind for the bird (flying!). The carvings on the stones were just showing WHICH stone did what. Totally misread the puzzle.
How To Solve It Super Simple
It’s stupid easy once you see the symbols above the locket:
- Walk to the water symbol on the wall (the wavy lines).
- From that spot, look around until you see the FISH carving on the stone properly aligned in your view.
- Press the USE button on THAT fish stone while standing facing the water symbol.
- Repeat: Go stand under the wind symbol, find the BIRD stone facing it, press it.
- Finally, stand under the fire symbol, find the SNAKE stone facing it, press it.
Did that exact thing – bird stone for wind, fish stone for water, snake stone for fire – CLICK. Locket popped open instantly. No special item, no weird spell, just pressing the right buttons while looking at the right wall symbols. Felt like a total dummy for not noticing the carvings overhead right away. Don’t overthink it like I did!
