My dumb struggle finding that dang ring

Alright folks, felt like a real bonehead today trying to track down that Risky Ring everyone talks about in BG3. I totally thought I’d just waltz into Act 3 and grab it from a vendor. Boy, was I wrong. Figured I’d lay out exactly how it went down, messy mistakes and all, so maybe you skip my headache.

First off, I just assumed it was sold somewhere obvious, right? Like, I’m waltzing through Baldur’s Gate city thinking, “Hey, fancy ring, fancy shopkeeper. Makes sense.” I hunted down every single trader I could find. Arron down in the Lower City? Checked his pockets, nothing. Felogyr down in the smokepowder joint? Nada. Even that weirdo Figaro cutting hair? Zip. Wasted a good hour just fast traveling between them all, hoping it might spawn or something.

Realizing I might’ve screwed up big time

So there I am, feeling pretty stupid, when I remember folks online mentioning some quest called “Avenge the Hag Survivors.” My brain goes, “Uh oh.” Because guess what? I kinda… skipped Act 2. Well, not entirely skipped, but I definitely didn’t finish everything out in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Specifically, this quest. I’d blitzed through, focused on the main Ketheric stuff, and left a bunch of side quests hanging. Classic me.

Panic sets in. Did I permanently lock myself out? Was that ring just gone forever because I didn’t backtrack? My gear-obsessed heart sank. I reloaded an older save way back near the Last Light Inn, grumbling the whole time about losing progress. But I really wanted that ring!

Back to the creepy shadows to fix my mistake

Okay, Act 2 reloaded. Time to actually find this Hag Survivor quest. Talked to everyone at the Last Light Inn who might know something. Took forever, but finally found Mayrina. She was kinda sulking near Art’s body near He Who Was’ spot – remember that shady bird dude? She was not happy, poor thing. Started the quest where she asks you to get revenge on the hag.

Here’s the important bit I almost screwed up AGAIN: You gotta actually go back and kill Auntie Ethel. Sounds simple? Well, I remembered the fight earlier was kinda gnarly with her duplicates and potions. Felt my palms sweat a little. Tracked her back down to her cozy little teahouse lair (which I’d totally avoided before) and went in ready for a brawl. Had to deal with:

  • Her turning invisible constantly.
  • Those stupid copies messing up my targeting.
  • Me shouting at my screen “Stay still, you green menace!” when she ran away to heal.

Beat her down eventually. Used a couple smoke powder bombs I’d saved for a rainy day. Felt good.

Finally grabbing the shiny thing

So Ethel’s down. No ring in her loot, typical. Now what? Went back to Mayrina, who was still hanging out near He Who Was. Told her the hag was dead meat. She was relieved (and honestly, kinda terrifyingly vengeful). Then, she actually became a trader! I literally right-clicked on her and saw she was now a vendor.

And boom. There it was in her inventory: the Risky Ring. Cost me a bit of gold, but honestly? Totally worth the stress and reloading. Felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Slapped that bad boy on my rogue immediately.

Moral of the story? DO NOT skip that quest like I almost did. You gotta do the whole thing – find Mayrina, finish “Avenge the Hag Survivors,” kill Auntie Ethel, then talk to Mayrina after the hag is dust. She becomes a vendor, and that’s your only shot. All that vendor hopping in Act 3 was me wasting time! Forget about shops for this one. It’s all about Mayrina in Act 2. I’m never leaving that area early again, learned my lesson the hard way. Hope you guys don’t have to!
