Okay, let’s talk about hunting that creepy-crawly Nerscylla in Monster Hunter. Man, that spider thing messed me up bad the first time I saw it crawling around in the Ancestral Steppe. Got paralyzed, poisoned, and carted back to camp faster than you can say “silk trap.” So I grabbed my notebook – the actual paper one, with coffee stains – and decided to figure this spiky nightmare out for good.
Getting Stomped & Learning Moves
First few hunts? Disaster. Wearing my usual Rathalos armor felt like wrapping myself in tissue paper against those poison claws. Its weird zig-zag charges kept tripping me, and that big web attack pinned me every time while its buddies nibbled on me. Worst part was trying to swing my trusty Great Sword – too darn slow when it’s skittering sideways spraying venom everywhere.
Test Driving Weapons Like a Madman
Started swapping gear at camp like it was a flea market:
- Great Sword: Too clunky. Couldn’t land a full charge combo unless it got stuck in vines, which rarely happened.
- Long Sword: Spirit combos kept missing the stupidly high weak points on its back when it reared up.
- Dual Blades: Actually decent! Fast enough to dodge webs, and sliding under its belly for Demon Mode slices felt amazing… but ran out of stamina dodging poison puddles constantly.
- Light Bowgun: Winner alert! Stood at medium distance peppering its face and spiky back with Fire ammo. Saw those orange damage numbers popping like crazy when I hit the glowing weak spots. Could actually roll away before getting paralyzed too. Finished the hunt with way less sweat.
Armor Setup That Didn’t Suck
Died three times in my Rathalos gear. Switched things up hard:
- Tried Khezu Armor (for Paralysis resist): Less paralysis, yeah… but poison pools became death sentences without Poison Immunity. Big nope.
- Yian Garuga Mix: Not terrible, blocked poison and had decent slots, but kept getting one-shot by those surprise drop attacks when my health wasn’t maxed.
- Final Setup: Rathian armor pieces! Grinded a few Pink Rathians for upgrades. Got Poison Immunity (HUGE relief walking through poison like it’s fog), threw in gems for Fire Attack +2 to boost my LBG shots. Still careful around its big attacks, but at least I stopped dying to puddles.
What Actually Hurts This Overgrown Spider
- Fire: Absolutely wrecks its face and that spiky shell. Saw parts breaking way faster.
- Thunder: Okay damage, but not nearly as good as Fire. Felt kinda meh.
- Ice & Water: Barely scratched it. Like pelting a tank with pebbles.
- Breaking Parts: Focused the head feelers and back spikes first – made its venom attacks weaker and trips it over more. Big openings!
So Here’s What Actually Works (For Me Anyway)
After carting a bunch and testing junk that felt useless? Light Bowgun for the win. Grab one that loads Fire ammo quick. Poke holes in the glowing parts – stay mobile, always keep your wirebug ready to dive away. Wear armor that cancels poison first, then pump Fire damage. Bring Herbal Medicines, Mega Demondrug, and traps for when it gets tired and limps away. Felt good finally seeing that carcass without being paralyzed or poisoned every five seconds. Happy hunting, and watch out for the webs!
