Resolution Description

At different game resolutions, the system will prompt you that there are new attribute points and skill points available for allocation:

  • If it is 640×480 resolution, you will see two red buttons at the bottom left and right corner of the screen: “New Attribute” and “New Skill”.
  • In 800×600 resolution, these buttons will appear on both sides of the toolbar at the bottom.

When you are in a safe area, click on the corresponding buttons to open the Attribute and Skill panels for adjustment.

What do you gain per level?

You can gain 5 Attribute Points per level up, which can be added to the following four attributes:

  • Strength (Str): affects attack power and equipment wearing requirements.
  • Agility (Dex): affects hit rate and dodging ability.
  • Strength (Vit): determines the level of life value.
  • Energy (Ene): determines the amount of mana.

You can add points to an attribute by clicking the “+” sign.

Diablo 2 character profiles and FAQs

What happens after death?

In the game, death is something to be avoided at all costs. When a character’s life value drops to 0, they are dead.

Single Player Mode vs Multiplayer Mode

  • In Single Player Mode, you will not lose money or experience when you die.
  • In Multiplayer Mode:
  • A percentage of money will be lost, up to a maximum of 20% of your current level.
  • All gold coins on your body will be dropped next to your corpse.
  • It is recommended to keep all your money in a chest to be safer.

Difficulty Penalty

If you die in Nightmare or Hell difficulty:

  • A portion of your experience value will be lost:
  • Nightmare difficulty: 5% of the current leveling experience is lost.
  • Nightmare: 10% of your current level.

For example: if it takes 10,000 experience to level up another level, then dying once in Nightmare difficulty will lose 500 experience, and Hell difficulty will lose 1,000 experience.

But the good news is: No demotion due to death!

How do I get my experience back?

In King of Doom, you can recover 75% of your lost experience if you can retrieve the body at the place of death.

However, if you choose to “save and quit” and go back to town, you won’t get it back.

So it’s worth considering whether or not to take the risk of picking up corpses in Hell or Nightmare difficulty.

Other notes

  • Pressing the ESC key will return you to town and your corpse will stay where it is.
  • You can go back and retrieve the corpse and put on your original equipment.
  • A purple prompt will appear when you approach the corpse.
  • If you don’t pick up the body and die again, items may be lost.
  • In multiplayer, only you can pick up your own corpse, except in Expert Mode (HC), where other players can pick it up for you. Special Note: Each player can only have a maximum of 16 corpses, after this number, old corpses will automatically disappear!

About character saves and reads

  • Attributes
  • Skills

Attributes in detail

Strength

Strength mainly affects the damage of your attacks and what equipment you can wear.

  • You get 5 attribute points per level.
  • The higher your strength, the more damage you can do.
  • Most equipments do not require much strength, usually around 134~232.
  • The more power you have, the more damage you can do. Most equipment doesn’t require much power, so it’s usually around 134~232.

Attack damage formula (simplified understanding):

  • Melee Weapon: Final Damage = Weapon Base Damage × (Strength + 100) ÷ 100
  • Bow/Crossbow: Final Damage = Weapon Base Damage × (Agility + 100) ÷ 100

Agility (Dexterity)

Dexterity affects your hit rate and defense.

  • The higher the Agility, the higher the probability of hitting an enemy and the lower the probability of being hit by an enemy.
  • It is especially important for long-range professions (such as Amazons).
  • If you find that your Hit Rate is too low, consider adding Agility or find equipment that increases Agility.

Hit Rate Formula (simplified):

Hit Rate = Attacker Level × 2 ÷ (Attacker Level + Target Level) × 100%.

Vitality

Vitality determines your life value.

  • The higher your Vitality, the more blood you have and the more you can survive.
  • When you drink a potion to restore your life, the higher your Vitality, the higher the chance of double recovery.

Energy

Energy determines how much mana you have.

  • Mana is the basis for using skills.
  • The higher your Energy, the more mana you have.
  • The higher your Energy, the higher your double recovery probability when using mana potions.

Stamina

Stamina relates to your ability to run.

  • The higher your stamina, the longer you can run.
  • Wearing heavy armor will drain your stamina faster.
  • If you don’t have enough stamina, it’s recommended to switch to lighter gear or add some stamina.

Blocking

If you are equipped with a shield or some special head (such as a necromancer’s shriveled head), you have a block chance.

  • Successful blocking prevents you from being attacked at all.
  • Block chance is affected by agility.
  • The block chance decreases when running.
