Alright, let me tell you about yesterday’s grind session. Wanted to see if I could actually find some good stuff in Path of Exile’s Onslaught league without pulling my hair out. Crap gear at the start, obviously. Grabbed me Shadow dude – figured a Deadeye setup might be okay for zooming around.
The Early Suffering
Started smashing stuff in Twilight Strand like usual. Kept my eyes peeled for anything glowing purple or gold on the ground, you know? Mostly just picked up junk, sold it to vendors for those basic currency orbs. Wasted way too much time trying to kill big groups hoping for loot explosions. Got mostly garbage whites and blues that first hour. Was kinda staring at my screen thinking, “Man, this ain’t quick at all.”
Changing Things Up
Got sick of the slow progress. Started doing a few things different:
- Blitzed Through Lower Acts: Stopped caring about full clears. Ran straight to the objective mobs or zone exits, only stopping if a big pack looked easy to delete fast. Every second counts.
- Hunted Specific Guys: Started actually paying attention to the map when I saw “Rogue Exile”. Made a point to track them down. Sometimes they dropped nothing, but other times? Boom, a Unique ring dropped! Not amazing, but way better than another trash blue.
- Started Chaining Fast Maps: Once I hit maps, skipped the complicated layouts. Stuck to straightforward ones I could run blindfolded – like Tropical Island or Beach. Ran through them, grabbing the occasional chest or league mechanic (Expedition mainly yesterday), melted the boss, and reset immediately. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
Where the Magic Happened
Did this for a solid chunk of the afternoon. Smashed through maybe twenty maps like that. Focused on moving fast, not killing everything. Then, bam!
- Got a Unique flask doing an Expedition.
- Found two pretty solid Rare pieces of armour back-to-back clearing a simple “Kill the Commander” mission.
- Highlight was some rare boots with awesome movement speed and resists. Felt like finding gold after digging through dirt all day.
My Takeaway
Honestly? Finding “good” gear quick isn’t about waiting for one jackpot. It’s about creating loads of cheap, fast chances to see loot.
- Rush the Acts: Don’t lollygag. Get to maps ASAP.
- Target the Loot Dudes: See an Exile, rogue shrine, or chest icon? Go there first before finishing the map.
- Stick to the Simple Stuff: Run maps you know you can clear in under 3 minutes consistently.
- Ignore Trash Packs: Kill the valuable stuff (Rares, Uniques, league mechanics) and move the hell on.
It won’t shower you in Uniques right away, but doing this consistently piles up currency and decent Rares surprisingly fast. Worked way better than slowly clearing everything hoping for a miracle. Now, back to grinding! Got a build to upgrade…
