Alright folks, buckle up. Wanted to find those darn Rivington rats everyone keeps whispering about. You know, the sneaky little buggers hiding somewhere near that temple? Honestly, I kept running around like a headless chicken for ages. Those cluttered streets around the lower city gate? Total maze.
My Frustrating Search Started Here
First thing I did was wander aimlessly past all the refugee folks near the water. Figured rats like water, right? Well, maybe, but not there apparently. Kept scanning the ground, listening for squeaks. Nothing but guards and sad faces.
Circled back towards that massive temple entrance everyone sees when they first roll into Rivington proper. Again, nothing obvious. I actually started thinking maybe I’d gotten the wrong location entirely. Feeling pretty dense at this point.
Getting Down and Dirty
Then, sheer dumb luck almost. Was backtracking past the temple gates, hugging the right-hand wall kinda near where those sketchy kids hang out. Noticed this small, smelly vent practically hidden behind some crates and barrels piled up. Looked suspiciously like rodent real estate.
Important detail: I seriously had to fail a Perception check first to bump into the bloody thing. Figures.
Clicked on the grimy grate, got the option to investigate. Took a closer look, and yep – distinct smell of wet rat. Nasty. That was the cue.
The Actual Tunnel Tangling
This part nearly wiped my party. Seriously.
- Entered the tunnel – dark, dank, exactly what you’d expect. Very narrow. Perfect for an ambush. Which, surprise surprise, came moments later.
- Triggered the trap! Big wobbly platform dropped out. Down went Shadowheart and my main dude. Only Astarion managed to jump back in time. Lesson learned? Walk slow and test the floor!
- Dealt with the survivors. Got two folks stuck below, two ratties down there hissing at them. Meanwhile, another giant rat drops down on the ledge above the platform shaft to nibble on Astarion. Total mess.
- Cleaned up the furry problem. Took some scrambling, some healing spells tossed down into the pit, and Astarion turning the platform rats into pincushions. Disgusting, but necessary.
Found some minor loot down in the pit afterwards. Honestly, the loot wasn’t the prize.
The Point of All This Rat Wrestling
Here’s why you care about this stinking rat hole:
- Trapper Ambush! That temple entrance? Later on, if you try to just walk in the front like polite folks, you trigger this nasty trap with fire and arrows. Total party killer. But if you dealt with these rats…
- It Disables the Trap! Yeah, the little tunnel connects. Clearing out the rat den means those trappers waiting by the temple entrance don’t get their free shot at roasting your group. You can just… walk up and talk to them. Or fight them on your terms.
Saved my bacon later on when I stumbled towards the temple properly.
Plain and Simple Takeaway
Wasted too much time overlooking the obvious spot. The key is:
- Head towards the Temple Entrance in Rivington.
- Hug the right-hand wall tightly past the gates.
- Look for janky stacks of crates/barrels near the ground.
- Find the stinky, hidden vent grate behind them.
- Get jumped by giant rats.
- Get annoyed by the falling floor trap.
- Kill the rats despite the chaos.
- Profit (by not getting burned alive later at the front door).
It’s messy, it’s smelly, it feels ridiculous fighting giant rodents in a claustrophobic tunnel. But trust me, finding this spot early saves a world of pain down the road. Learn from my fumblings!
