Tapu Fini Weakness Explained: Learn How to Beat It Fast!

My First Attempt Got Wrecked

Okay, so I saw this Tapu Fini raid pop up yesterday. Looked cool, like some weird water ghost thing guarding its island. Figured it was just another Water type, right? Grabbed my best Electric team – Zapdos, Electivire, Raikou – the usual zappy crew. Got into the raid lobby, saw a few other trainers bringing dragons and grass types. “Fine,” I thought, “should be easy money.”

How wrong I was. Got absolutely steamrolled. Couldn’t even drop it below 40% HP. Fini kept spamming that Moonblast like it was going out of fashion, melting my dragons and anything else that wasn’t Steel type. My Zapdos got slapped around like a fly. My Electivire survived maybe two hits before folding. Worst part? Seeing teammates try to use stupid Dark Pokémon against Fairy moves. Absolute dumpster fire. Total waste of a raid pass. Annoying as heck.

Scrambling for a Plan

Obviously needed a new strategy. Got home, fired up my laptop, started digging. Watched a couple clips of folks actually winning, browsed through discussions.

  • Electric Ain’t Enough: Yeah, Zapdos resists water, but that Fairy damage? Straight murder. Pure Electric got wrecked.
  • Moonblast HURTS: This thing STABS hard with its Fairy attacks. Anything weak to Fairy (Dragons, Dark, Fighting) got instantly deleted. Like, useless.
  • Poison & Steel Looked Promising: Kept seeing folks mention Poison types resist Fairy moves. Steel was even better – double resists Fairy and resists Water. Okay, getting somewhere.
  • Grass Could Work… Carefully: Good against Water, yeah, but gotta watch out hard for Moonblast or Ice moves Fini might pack.

Felt like I needed tanks that wouldn’t just crumble. Started hunting through my Pokémon storage for good Steel/Poison options with solid defense.

The Team That Actually Worked

Took a few tries to refine, swapping things in and out based on what got KO’d fastest. Here’s what eventually held up:

  • Metagross (Steel/Psychic): Bullet Punch + Meteor Mash. My MVP. That double Fairy resist? Massive. Took Moonblasts like champ. Bullet Punch built up energy fast for Meteor Mash smashes.
  • Nidoking (Poison/Ground): Poison Jab + Earth Power. Resisted Fairy thanks to Poison typing. Earth Power hit decently if Fini tried Muddy Water nonsense.
  • Magnezone (Steel/Electric): Spark + Wild Charge. Okay, this was a compromise. Still Electric damage Fini hates, BUT the Steel typing gave it that crucial Fairy resist. Way tougher than pure Electric types. Spark charged Wild Charge super fast.
  • Roserade (Grass/Poison): Razor Leaf + Grass Knot. The Poison sub-type saving it from instant Fairy doom. Hit hard with Grass attacks, resisted Water, but had to heal it CONSTANTLY.
  • Gholdengo (Steel/Ghost): Made it Hex + Shadow Ball. Ghost typing didn’t help much offensively against Fini, but its Steel typing meant it tanked Moonblasts amazingly well. Hex actually built energy decently quick.
  • Perrserker (Steel): Metal Claw + Iron Head. Pure Steel tanking duty. Simple, resisted everything Fini threw, chipped away reliably.

Key things? Resist Fairy attacks. Hit back with Poison, Steel, or Grass (carefully!). Pure Electric or Dragons were suicide. Avoid Dark types at all costs!

Execution – Nailed It (Second Try)

Jumped back into a raid. Made sure my team was healed and ready. Prayed for competent teammates who understood type matchups this time. Lobby looked better – mostly Steelix, Metagross, and a couple Grass/Poisons. “Alright,” I thought, “this might work.”

Started with Metagross. Spammed Bullet Punch, Meteor Mash whenever ready. Tanked Moonblasts like a god, barely lost half its HP early on. Timed my charged attacks properly when possible for maximum damage. Swapped to Nidoking when Fini shielded, got Poison debuffs ticking. Saw Fini charging a big attack? Dodged when I could! Switched to Roserade once, got hit by an unexpected Ice Beam – hurt bad, switched out fast. Mostly relied on the heavy Steels – Gholdengo walling special attacks, Perrserker just bashing away. Saw Fini go down below 25% HP. “Keep going!” Used shield wisely for teammates’ charged moves. Final blow came from my Metagross’s Meteor Mash. Victory screen popped up. Finally!

Got the catch after a few golden razz + excellent curveballs. Sweet relief. Took notes immediately so I wouldn’t forget:

  • Fairy Resistance is KING. Steel typing is MVP.
  • Poison subtyping saves Grass types.
  • Dodge big charged moves if possible! Moonblast is brutal.
  • Stick with bulky counters. Survival means DPS.
  • Pray teammates aren’t using dark types. Seriously, morons.

Honestly? Once you know the gimmick – DO NOT GET HIT HARD BY FAIRY ATTACKS – it becomes way more manageable. Hope this messy trial-and-error helps you avoid my first disaster! Just pack Steel walls.
