Alright guys, let me tell you how my hunt for runeword bows in D2 went down yesterday. Started bright and early, brewed some strong coffee because I knew this grind would take ages. Grabbed my trusty Sorceress – she’s geared okay for magic finding, nothing crazy fancy. Got about 250% MF on her, some war traveler boots, shako, stuff like that. Could be better but hey, we work with what we got.
Where I Went Hunting
First spot I hit was the Pits in Tamoe Highland. Figured those fallen and archer packs drop good stuff sometimes. Teleported around like mad, blasting everything with Frozen Orb. Cleared that place maybe ten times back-to-back. Got loads of junk: ravens, sigons, this ugly Isenhart armor three times! Seriously game? Screw this, I need better loot.
- Mausoleum in Burial Grounds: Superdark place. Slower going ’cause skeletons cold immune annoy my orb. Found a low Dol rune but nothing for bows.
- Ancient Tunnels under Lost City: Treasure vault they say. I say maybe! Spent almost an hour there. Couple of green rings that turned crap, unique war hat no one uses. No high runes no bases. Pain.
Changed My Plan
Got annoyed. Watched some old forum advice while eating lunch. Folks said Cows are better for base items. Fine! Took my javazon out instead. She’s got decent gear too. Killed Moo Moo King fast, popped that red portal. Ran around like crazy stabbing cows with Lightning Fury. Cleared whole level five times fast. Got white bases dropping but…
- Found three hunter bows – too weak sockets
- Two razor bows – ethereal trash
- One grand matron bow – hey nice! But 0 sockets…damn it Charsi!
Almost Gave Up
Seriously thought about quitting after that grand matron letdown. Drank more coffee. Told myself “one more try.” Headed back to Pits cause screw cows now. Third run there – hear that glorious “ting!” sound. Saw a hydra bow sitting there white and proud. Picked it up shaking…four sockets! Exactly what needed for Faith runeword base! Almost cried real tears.
Rushed straight back to stash. Dug out my saved Jah and Ohm runes from weeks of grinding other spots. Slapped them in order – Jah Ohm Lem Eld – praying hard I didn’t mess up. Boom! +2 Skills Faith Bow popped out. Rolled okay fanaticism aura too. That’s when I danced around room hollering at 5AM probably waking neighbors. Worth it.
