Okay so this BG3 rebalance mod thing bugged me forever. Played through twice now, first time felt too easy after level 10, second time I cranked Tactician up… felt like monsters were just damage sponges. Zero fun.
Where I Started
Booted up my dusty PC, opened the mod manager. Yeah, I use that one everybody uses, you know the name. Started trawling Nexus because seriously, all mods just break stuff or make it worse. Found three big ones folks keep shouting about:
- “Better Everything Rebalance”: Sounds great right? Promises to fix combat, spells, items, you name it.
- “True Tactician Plus”: This one swears it makes Tactician mode actually tactical, not just painful.
- “Just Fix The Numbers”: Simple name, figured maybe simple is best.
The First Try Mess
Grabbed “Better Everything” first because it promised the world. Total chaos. Fighters got super tanky alright, but my fireball? Felt like throwing a wet matchstick. Went up against some goblins outside the grove – fights took forever, spells bounced off, it was boring as hell. Uninstalled after an hour. Felt like work, not play.
Giving Tactician Another Shot
Okay, wiped that mess away. Installed “True Tactician Plus”. Loaded my Act 2 save near Moonrise. Holy hell. Those little meenlocks? Suddenly acting like combat geniuses. Dodging everything, ganging up on my poor warlock. Ketheric Thorm? Forget it. His adds spammed disables like crazy. Died five times trying the same stupid fight. Maybe “tactical” means “you lose unless you savescum constantly”. Nope. Uninstalled.
Simple Might Be Better?
By this point I’m grumpy. Installed “Just Fix The Numbers” thinking, fine, maybe tweak some stats and call it a day. Felt… almost vanilla? But different enough to be confusing. Some magic items got weirdly powerful, some useless stuff became okay. Problem? Felt kinda random. No vision. Like they picked stats out of a hat. Played a few hours. Meh. It didn’t break things hard, but didn’t fix what annoyed me either. Removed it too.
What Actually Worked (For Me)
Wasted a whole Saturday night messing with this junk. Ended up back near vanilla Tactician, but I cheated a little. Found one tiny mod that only changes action economy. Lets you swap a bonus action for a main action, just once per turn. Seriously.
That simple change? Makes positioning way more important. I can actually do something useful after moving my cleric. My rogue feels sneaky again without sacrificing his stabbing. Vanilla monsters stay mostly the same, fights feel intense but actually manageable because my choices matter more. Plus, zero save game explosions. Didn’t promise to fix everything. Just fixed my biggest headache.
Moral? Forget the huge overhaul hype. Find one tiny tweak that pisses you off and fix only that. Less messing around, more playing. Who knew?
